January 2023 Wyrd Wanderings
Once a month we gather to sing with the ancestors, to deepen our connection to the Well of Wyrd and to seek the wisdom and guidance from the Runes. This month we pulled the runes…
Os - Loki’s rune from the Younger Futhark set that has the same translation as Ansuz, Odin’s rune in his aspect of the Wanderer, “Mouth of God.” Both runes talk about finding wisdom and guidance by using our voice, but both take a different approach. Odin seeks wisdom by relying on his inner voice through inner journeying and meditation and Loki relying on his outward speech and communication. This is also the rune of Bragdi, the god of music and poetry for it’s connection to the beauty and power of the voice.
Ingwaz - Freyr’s rune that acts like a safety net for this month’s message. He is the good god, the good king who is willing to lay down his very life for the good of the people and for all of life and creation. Freyr’s presence right in the middle of Loki’s two runes acts as a message of safety and reassurance. A reminder that it is okay and safe to trust.
Kenaz - The torch and Loki’s rune in the Elder Futhark set that helps illuminate our paths by following our passions and what inspires us.
Together these three runes are all about trust. 2023 is a 7 year in numerology, a highly spiritual number that teaches us the importance of divine timing and divine trust. Very fitting that the first WW of the year is all about this message of trust. Trickster gods like Loki often get a bad reputation for their chaotic nature and unpredictableness, but they are the catalyst in their stories and myths. Thor would have never got his hammer unless Loki thought it would be funny to make Siff (Thor’s wife) permanently bald. His most iconic symbol that people often wear to represent their Heathenism would have never been a thing without Loki. And so too are most of the other myths. They usually start off with a trickster deciding to cause some mischief.
Artistically too, I wanted to wait to do my first bindrune of the year for this month’s WW. I knew that it was going to be a lot of truth, wisdom, and knowledge and for me that came out in trying different things out in my art. I originally got into digital art because I wanted to become a better artist. I see so many incredible artists on Instagram and they help inspire me to want to go and become better and better all the time. But I needed help cracking out of my comfort zone with my art and this bindrune has helped break up my routine so I could expand and grow my style. I plan on continuing to add more colors and elements to expand my art more and more.
I highly recommend using this Bindrune to help you to try something new and different, to be brave enough to suck at something new, or to go back to something you haven’t done in a long, long time. Again, the big message for this year is to trust. This month especially, it is knowing you are safe to trust even if things feel off or strange or different, you are safe to trust.
You are welcome to use my public Bindrunes for personal spiritual purposes only.
